Early Iron Age (Korea)

초기 철기 시대

Movement · period · 300 BCE–1 BCE

Dates. It begins about 300 BCE, when iron came into use — with the Chinese commanderies in the north, though Choi Sung-rak sees a native iron industry in the south from the time of Wiman Chosŏn (194–108 BCE)1. Its end is a convention of archaeologists, not an event: the turn of the era (Portal’s “0” — there is no year 0, so it ends here with 1 BCE) or, in another reading, about 100 BCE2.
