Walter Feilchenfeldt (Kunsthandel)

Institution · gallery · Zürich, Switzerland · founded 1948

Art dealership in Zürich, founded in 1948 by Walter Feilchenfeldt (1894–1953), who had run the Berlin firm of Paul Cassirer with Grete Ring from 1926 and emigrated to Amsterdam in 1933 and to Switzerland in 1939.1 After his death in 1953 his widow Marianne Feilchenfeldt directed it, from 1966 together with their son Walter Feilchenfeldt jun., who ran it alone from 1990.2 In 2011 it became Walter Feilchenfeldt AG, Art Negociation & Research, which keeps the Paul Cassirer & Walter Feilchenfeldt archive — the dealer’s records cited by museums for the provenance of works that passed through the firm.3 Member of the Swiss Art Trade Association since 1951.4 Museum provenances name the firm as “Walter Feilchenfeldt (Kunsthandel), Zürich” — without dates of life, unlike the persons.
