Japanese era name (長暦) for the years 1037–1039: 1037 is Chōryaku 1 (元年) and Chōryaku 3 is 1039. Chōryaku (長暦) is a Japanese era name (nengō), proclaimed in 1037. Its years are counted in lunar years from the new year before the proclamation: 1037 is Chōryaku 1 (元年), 1039 its last year, Chōryaku 3. A Japanese source dates a year within it as “Chōryaku 2” (長暦2年) rather than by a continuous count. Before: Chōgen. After: Chōkyū.
