Chinese era name (中統) of the Mongol empire and the Yuan for the years 1260–1263: 1260 is Zhongtong 1 (元年) and Zhongtong 4 is 1263. Zhongtong (中統) is a Chinese era name (nianhao) of the Mongol empire, which took the dynastic name Yuan in 1271, proclaimed in 1260 under Khubilai Khan (世祖). Its years are counted in lunar years: 1260 is Zhongtong 1 (元年), 1263 its last year, Zhongtong 4. A Chinese source dates a year within it as “Zhongtong 2” (中統二年) rather than by a continuous count.
