丁未の乱
Event · war · 587 · Osaka Prefecture, Japan
The civil war of 587 in which the Soga clan and Prince Shōtoku, who favoured Buddhism, defeated Mononobe no Moriya; afterwards Soga no Umako and Shōtoku built the first great Buddhist foundations, the Shitennōji (completed about 593) and the Asukadera (about 588–596)1. According to the Nihon shoki, Shōtoku carved images of the Four Heavenly Kings during the battle and vowed to build them a temple if he won — the Shitennōji, founded in 5932.
