Lacquer sutra box
Artwork · Anonymous · 13th century · box · British Museum
One of only about fourteen surviving pieces of Koryŏ lacquer, eight of them sutra boxes: peony scrolls and stylized chrysanthemums in mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell with twisted metal wire, like Yuan inlaid lacquer — perhaps for the printed Tripitaka.
