Okada residence, Ōmori
Artwork · Sutemi Horiguchi · 1934 · building
The best-known prewar design of Sutemi Horiguchi (1895–1984), leader of the Secessionist Architectural Society (Bunriha) and friend of Mendelsohn, Gropius and Oud: two traditional tatami rooms placed beside a Western-style living room, each with its own view of the garden — modernist ideas brought round to the practical simplicity of shoin architecture.
