Tea bowl called Mount Fuji (Fujisan)

Artwork · Honami Kōetsu · early 17th century · tea bowl

The premier ceramic work of Honami Kōetsu, an accomplished amateur potter: like the mountain, white around the top and greyish black below, shaped by hand, the marks of the shaving knife proudly left at base and lip. Filled with foamy green tea it becomes a volcano’s crater. 1 Mason 2005, pp. 251–252, fig. 288. ↩ Literatur Mason 2005: Penelope E. Mason, History of Japanese Art, 2nd, Pearson Education LTD. 2005.
