Hondō (main hall), Yakushiji

Artwork · Anonymous · building · Yakushi-ji Temple

The main hall of Yakushi-ji Temple, a towering two-storeyed building with a mokoshi on each storey, with room before it for a large assembly. The original of about 730 was lost; the present hall is a reconstruction of the late twentieth century, restoring the compound to something close to its first appearance. It houses the Yakushi Triad. 1 Mason 2005, p. 66, fig. 75. ↩ Literatur Mason 2005: Penelope E. Mason, History of Japanese Art, 2nd, Pearson Education LTD. 2005.
